The Mather - Kirkland House (The Academy) is a City of Austin landmark. (CASE #1979-0015-) (ORDINANCE#: 790913-Q). Myron D. Mather built this house in 1890. He had been a furniture dealer and served as president of the Austin Water, Light, and Power Company. Another owner of the house was Leroy G. Denman, who bought the house in 1897 while serving as an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. In the early 1900's the Austin Military School occupied the house. | ||
