The Lindemann House is a City of Austin landmark. (CASE #1975-0003- ) (ORDINANCE#: 750626-B). Bernard Lindemann was born in Bremen, German around 1845. He arrived in Austin in 1873 and built this house sometime in the 1880's. He was a master mechanic for the Houston and Texas Central Railroad for 32 years. The house was late sold to Joe Gonzales, who operated the Austin Sewing Machine Company. The floors are all made of cypress and like all houses of its time, this house had no built in closets. The rooms on each side of the main hall have coal-burning cast iron fireplaces. Lindemann's daughter Laura burned to death in this room in the winter of 1950. | ||
